Bill - Site Editor Page Last Updated: February 15, 2024 Warranty BasicsFor the most part, vinyl siding warranties are created to protect the manufacturer, not help out the consumer. This is a somewhat jaded point of view, but it's good to go in with eyes wide open. The biggest problem with siding warranties is that they don't cover installation. How could they? Manufacturers don't really have factory trained installers so the manufacture can provide instructions on installing the siding, but they aren't responsible for improper installation. This is the main reason why selecting a top quality installer is so important. ABTco Siding WarrantyThe ABTco siding warranty is a relatively long document that actually includes some decent provisions. It protects the original purchaser for the lifetime of the siding from the standard problems; rusting, peeling, blistering, flaking, etc. It includes a hail provision, where the homeowner must first make a claim with their homeowner's insurance. If the homeowneris insurance will not cover the damage, then ABTco will provide replacement materials, but will not cover any of the replacement labor or freight costs.
Gentek Siding WarrantyThe Gentek warranty is a Limited Lifetime Warranty that covers panel defects such as blistering, flaking and peeling under normal use. Gentek will cover the cost of the siding for as long as the owner owns their home. The warranty is transferrable, however after the owner transfer, the company will only cover 10% of the price from years 14 on from the original date. (10 years after purchase date the company would cover 50% of the replacement cost.) The warranty includes a fading provision against fading more than Delta E 4 Hunter Units. There is also a 50 year hail provision that kicks in if the homeowner's insurance does not cover this, although the company does not cover installation or freight costs. There are a number of exclusions and limitations to the warranty.
Durabuilt Siding WarrantyDurabuilt will replace, repair or refund the cost of the vinyl siding and installation if the boards flake, blister, peel, crack or weather unevenly from a manufacturing defect. The warranty also covers excessive siding color fading during the first five years, although it does not define excessive fading. The warranty includes a hail damage provision that says the company will replace the boards or refund the purchase price above and beyond the amount that the homeowner insurance covers.
Napco Siding WarrantyNapco offers a Lifetime Transferable Warranty on all of their vinyl siding panels. The company agress to replace, repair or refund the cost of the siding and installation if the boards blister, flake, peel or weather unevenly as a result of the manufacturing process. The warranty covers excessive color fade, but does not provide an actual definition of what constitutes "excessive." There is a hail provision that covers the product portion not covered by homeowner's insurance (it does not cover any installation costs, which is pretty standard in the industry.) The warranty covers the original owner for their life and the warranty can be transferred one time to a new owner. However, the warranty for the new owner is pro-rated, meaning that they will only cover a portion of the vinyl siding and that percentage goes down every year (the company only covers 10% of the cost at year 14 after the original purchase date.)
Norandex Vinyl Siding WarrantyThe Norandex siding warranty is a bit confusing because the warranty we looked at covered some, but not all, of the products in the Norandex lineup. For instance, it did not cover the Sawmill line. The company offers a Limited Lifetime warranty covers manufacture defects such as flaking, peeling, rusting, cracking and corroding. The products are also warrantied again hail damage, although the homeowner must first try to have the damage covered under the homeowner's insurance. There is additional coverage for the Polar Wall Plus, specifically the R-value depreciation of the boards over time. The warranty covers the original owner for the lifetime of the product. It is transferrable once to a subsequent owner, however the amount that the company covers goes from 100% down to 10% by year 14 of the original date of purchase.
KP Siding WarrantyKP vinyl siding comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty that covers panel defects from blistering, flaking, rotting and peeling under normal use. The company will cover the cost of the siding for as long as the owner owns their home. The warranty is transferrable, however after the owner transfer, the company will only cover 10% of the vinyl siding replacement price from years 14 on from the original date. (10 years after purchase date the company would cover 50% of the replacement cost.)
Preservation Vinyl Siding WarrantyPreservation (owned by AMI) offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in the siding during the manufacturing process that can be transferred a single time to another owner. The subsequent owner receives gets the warranty provisions for 50 years from the original date of purchase. However, after 14 years and until year 50, the company covers only 10% of the cost of the defective product. The warranty specifically does not cover any damage or defects from the installation. The warranty covers excessive fading, which is defined as more than three Hunter Units of color change. In the event of an ownership transfer, the subsequent owner receives the fade warranty provision for 50 years from the original date of purchase. Preservation also includes a hail provision that warranties against damage from hail, although homeowners must first go through their homeowner's insurance before seeking compensation from AMI's warranty.
Revere Vinyl Siding WarrantyThe Revere warranty is identical to the Gentek siding warranty because Gentek owns Revere. It is a Limited Lifetime Warranty that covers panel defects such as blistering, flaking and peeling under normal use.
Vytec Vinyl Siding WarrantyThe Vytec warranty is relatively straight forward - it is a Limited Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on its panels to the original homeowner. There is a color fade provision that warranties the siding not to fade more than four Hunter units during the initial 10 years. (The fade provision is not transferable to another owner.) If the boards do flake, blister or corrode, the company will replace or repair the siding and cover the installation for as long as the original owner owns the home. The warranty is transferable, but the repair and replace provision is on a percentage basis so by year 14 (after original date of purchase), the company will only cover 10% of the cost.
