Cedar Shingle Advice
I am looking for any advice on panel shingles. I am in the process of siding my home and really wanted cedar shingles. They look fantastic, but I am concerned that they will require too much maintenance, costing me time and money in the long run. I was told about panel shingles and would appreciate any advice on these. Thank you.

Cedar shingles don't require the maintenance you think they do, in fact you can just leave them to weather and they'll be fine and still look good. They are quick to install and can be done as a basic Do It Yourself project.

CertainTeed Great Quality
When I built my home over ten years ago I chose a fiber cement siding and you couldn't tell it apart from the cedar siding. In fact it drove my neighbors crazy because they were constantly staining their cedar siding, while mine was basically maintenance free. Installing it wasn't the easiest, I did it as a DIY project and would probably have a professional do the installation if I were to go this route again. The Certainteed fiber cement was offered with a fifty year warranty and it looked as good as the day I installed it when I sold the property a short time ago.

Excessive Fading With Nailite
We bought Nailite cedar siding and it looks bad after only 5 years. It was supposed to be a forrest green but it's more like lime at this point. My husband and I may just remove it and try and file a warranty claim. Several installers recommended we use a lighter color and I would now agree with them, but it does us little good now. I felt the fading was excessive.
